Quick Tip: 5 Drawing Annotations You NEED to Use

Trevor English • Aug 01, 2018

With the growing prevalence of integrated CAD/CAM software, the days of the 2D drawing  may  be coming to a close. However, in many cases this design tool is still an essential part of the process, meaning you need to be intimately familiar with how to create one. The video below will walk you through 5 of the top annotation tools that you will need to use for successful drawing creation.

  1. Dimensions – Probably the most basic and most used annotation of them all, dimensions allow you to specify the distance between 2 entities.
  2. Hole and Thread – Call out hole size and thread specifications with just one click using this feature.
  3. Leader Text – Create custom comments to describe better what is happening in a specific section of the drawing.
  4. Center Line Bisector – Easily identify the center of a cylinder in a side view by adding a center line.
  5. Auto Balloon – Call out the number of parts, as well as auto number them, in a multi-part drawing. You can then add these to a parts list in the drawing.
