Where do you see your company in 10 years?

Web Design  and  the  internet  are  changing all  the  time and  largely  we  can already  see  what the  net  will  look like  in the very  near  future

Whether you know it or not, you probably interact with artificial intelligence every day. Google’s algorithm uses AI to provide you with relevant search results.

Virtual assistants, like Siri and Cortana, have already been processing inquiries over the internet through the magic of artificial intelligence for a while now. But, recently, AI has entered the mainstream.

In 2018, more and more websites have chatbots installed, which can interact with visitors. These conversational interfaces enhance user experience by asking and responding to visitors’ questions.

With web developers finding more uses for AI every year, it is likely to be one of the major influencers in future of web design.

VARIABLE FONTS

Variable fonts are another web design trend you will probably see a lot more of shortly. Since they can improve page-load times, reading experience and give designers greater creative freedom, variable fonts are beginning to be used more frequently.

Variable fonts — a single font file that stores a continuous range of design variants — change the way web developers can design a site. Suddenly, it’s possible to tailor character width or height for various screen sizes and languages but with the benefit of a reduced file size.

This typography option, which can help businesses show brand personality and enhance aesthetics, is becoming more popular by day.

ANIMATION

Although web animation is hardly a new invention, developers continue to find new uses for it every year.

Animation is the perfect fit for today’s web searchers, who are short on time. It has the ability to tell a brand’s story in just a few frames.

Animation will be a central part of the future of web design, because it can be engaging and informing at the same time. By being less static than a simple graphic, these visual representations often have more traction with millennial visitors.

What  will  web design industry be like in the future?

Lisa Sabin-Wilson, COO of Web DevStudios  “ “The future of web design is contextual technology.

Contextual technology means that the technology we are using understands our needs and our environment to the point that it is seamless, explains Sabin-Wilson. Users aren’t always aware that it’s happening, because it happens on the fly.

She believes that design has no choice but to collide with the technology that is emerging today, such as virtual reality, artificial intelligence, the evolution of wearable tech, and more. Where does that take us in design?

Web design will need to adjust itself based on the technology and the context. Key factors of a user’s behaviour and environment come into play, she says. Design will need to evolve, and if we are adapting to the technology and platform in 10,15, or 20 years from now, web design will require us to think and act a few steps ahead.”

Marc Ensign, Founder of LoudMouse   “ “Over the next 10-15 years, websites are going to incorporate some form of artificial intelligence. Not to the point where your local landscaping website is going to take over the world like John Connor warned us about. But it will recognize who you are, what you like, who you are connected to and a whole bunch of other information pulled from your digital footprint. These websites are going to make the experience feel more like there is a person behind the screen that gets you and less like a one sided conversation where you are subjected to marketing pitches on every page you visit. The companies that appear more human in their marketing and specifically on their website are the ones that are going to win.”

Karolyn HART, COO at InspireHUB Inc.    “ “In 2016, we saw the very first brands retiring their native apps in favour of Progressive Web Apps. Currently, there is still a distinction between a web designer and an app designer. We predict the creation of a new job function. Online Experience (OX) Designers will be distinct from the current UX Design jobs we currently understand. The OX Designer will be both web and app designer rolled into one comprehensive position that will see them merging these two worlds in the future to provide truly seamless experiences for users no matter what device they are using to access online.”

If you were to give your clients one tip on how to get the most from their website what would it be?

Get the home page right  “This is the most important page. People generally decide within 5 seconds if they want to stay on your site, based purely on the home page design.

DON’T try and say everything on the home page. This is the most common mistake I see. You have plenty of opportunity throughout the rest of the site to explain what you do, so don’t feel you have to say it all on the front cover.
